January Whole30 – Day Twenty Two

January 20, 2017

Holy crap I’m cold. I woke up to pouring rain, freezing temperatures, and strong wind. Between the physical climate and the political climate, all I wanted to do all day was lay in bed. Just lay there. Not even watch tv or read. Just stare at the wall and think about mayo.

But after I was done thinking about mayo, I made coffee and had all the energy in the world. I spent hours cooking today. Pumpkin, sweet potato, tuna salad, tahitian squash, and more sauerkraut! Massaging/beating the cabbage was incredibly cathartic while listening to podcasts about Trump. Podcasts have been a lifesaver while doing all this cooking. They make roasting veggies a hell of a lot more interesting.

These are my favorite podcasts right now:

  1. Pod Save America. I just discovered this podcast yesterday, but apparently these guys have been podcasting for a while. Four former Obama cabinet members talk politics. That’s it. But it’s great.
  2. My Favorite Murder. Any other true crime junkies out there? This show is a fun conversation between two friends who share stories of the crimes that fascinate them. Even though this show is about murder, it’s funny and entertaining. Episodes are long, but I’ve found myself binge listening all week long.
  3. An Organic Conversation. This is the most hippie show I listen to by far. Topics include wasteless living, clean water, and obviously food! Plus, every episode ends with a discussion of what produce is in season and how best to cook it. Gives me a head start on my Farmer’s Marker list for the week!
  4. Stuff Mom Never Told You. Sadly, these ladies are no longer releasing new episodes,  it there’s a ton of awesome topics in the archives. Everything from the feminization of yogurt to the impact of social workers. Feminists unite! This podcast is awesome.
  5. Puck Soup. This one is for any hockey fans out there. These guys are hilarious and this podcast gives me a chance to stay up to date with hockey news without tv.
  6. This Is Why Your Single. This is the ultimate girl talk podcast. My bestie is states away and we don’t get to talk as much I’d like. So whenever I’m missing her or I’m just in need of some dating advice/tough love, I turn to these ladies!
  7. Anna Faris Is Unqualified. I freakin love Ana Faris. She’s so great. Her interviews are hilarious, interesting, and real. Just like her. She’s one of the few celebrities I actually enjoy following because she’s just normal. Not an ass hole. That’s hard to come by.
  8. Balanced Bites Podcast. Now I couldn’t leave a paleo podcast off this list, could I? I love Diane and Liz and I’m grateful for all the information they offer in their podcast. Mindset, digestion, carbs, etc. But everything episode has real life applications that are relevant to every day life.
  9. Car Talk. I don’t care about cars at all. I know nothing about them and I have no desire to know anything about them. But these guys (and their callers) are hilarious. I remember listening to this as a radio show with my parents on Sundays after church. So it has that nostalgia factor for me as well.

These are just a few of the podcasts I listen to on a regular basis, but these are my go-to’s for cooking because most episodes are at least an hour. I didn’t include the Ted Radio Hour, Fresh Air, Stuff You Should Know, or Radiolab because everyone listens to these. Not much variety there. And if you haven’t listened to Serial yet, I don’t know what sort of rock you’ve been living under, but that’s where you should start.
