January Whole30 – Day Twenty Six

January 27, 2017

Well it happened. I got in a facebook argument over politics. I’m actually surprised it took this long.

Because I spend so much time cooking and doing dishes (you’ll never do more dishes than when you’re doing Whole30, that’s guaranteed), I spent a lot of time listening to podcasts. And this week in particular has been especially distressing in the news/politics world. I’m not gonna discuss that here because this is a blog mostly about carrots, not the carrot in chief.

Starting tonight, I’ll be taking a couple days off from the political banter. I’m already having a hard time with it, but I’m optimistic I can turn this frown upside down. Or at least flat, that’s actually more likely. Under no circumstances will I be going for long walks or doing any solo yoga sessions. Those are prime mind-wandering activities. And when my mind wanders, I immediately think about all the bad things in the world. That’s something I shold probably work on. Anyways, here are some things I’ll be doing this weekend to take my mind off you-know-who.

  1. Listen to the My Favorite Murder podcast while scrubbing my floors. Nothing like taking your mind off world destruction with some light hearted murder talk and some all natural cleaner that smells like basil.
  2. Watch Gilmore Girls. Not only do I love this show, it’s outdated and makes no political references. Perfect.
  3. Do a crazy intense workout. I’ll be more concerned about the immediate threat to my life, rather than the soon-to-be threat to all our lives.
  4. Make another batch of sauerkraut. I already have two jars going, but there’s something very cathartic about massaging cabbage.
  5. Wax my legs. Maybe the stinging pain on my body can take away from the pain in my heart.
  6. Go to Fedex Office. That’s more of a personal note – I need to ship some packages. But conversations about the cost of shipping are usually pretty mind-numbing.
  7. Alphabetize my spices. Mostly because they’re a mess, but also because I’m 87.

Anything you’re doing to take your mind off politics? Let me know! These posts have become less and less about whole30 – partly because I’m so used to it now, but also because my meals have been pretty much the same every day. That’s a tip. Find what works for you and stick to it. Don’t try too hard. This paleo lifestyle is quite simple: eat real food. That’s it.
