January Whole30 – Day Twenty Seven

After failing on my promise to rid my weekend of politics, I found myself once again angry. And cold. A combination almost as dangerous as hanger.

How can you not pay attention to everything going on these days? But instead of scrolling through facebook all day and looking for things to make me angry, I listened to Real Time with Bill Maher. I know he’s not for everyone and he’s definitely representative of the ultra-liberals, I think he’s great. Smart, funny, and somewhat fair. I actually enjoy that he invites opposing viewpoints on his show to foster healthy debate. It’s not like watching CNN or Fox News where people just reinforce their beliefs. Bill Maher makes me think. And I appreciate that.

But it was too beautiful a day to think about politics and nothing is better for the psyche than a short bike ride down to the pier. I picked up a copy of Eat The Yolks by Liz Wolfe and spent a couple hours at Peet’s, drinking coffee and reading about how backwards our thoughts on nutrition are. This book is one of the two for the Balanced Bites Master Class which so far, has been awesome. I’ve been taking notes, making flashcards, and talking through these concepts to my cat. He hates me. Not sure if that’s because of the talking or because I switched him to grain-free cat food. Either way, he’s definitely plotting to kill me in my sleep.

Looking forward to my big farmer’s market/grocery shopping trip tomorrow! Even though the the first 30 days are almost over, I’m still gonna need compliant foods during much of the reintroduction phase. Beans on Wednesday!

Meal 1: turkey zucchini meatballs with roasted cauliflower and purple sweet potato

Snack: apple slices with almond butter (also had a slice of deli turkey from true story foods)

Meal 2: baked buffalo drumsticks with carrots and green bell pepper. all dipped in tessemae’s ranch

Meal 3: turkey vegetable chili with steamed broccoli
