January Whole30 – Day Seven

January 8, 2017

HOLLA it’s been a whole week! The first week is the worst, but I’m confident it’s all uphill from here. Hopefully. I mean, cinnamon rolls show up on my phone daily to torture me but I know I can beat those temptations. Because nothing replaces a cinnamon roll quite like a piece of steamed fish. Yum!

So far, I’ve only had one day of sweet cravings but I know something much more intense is coming: food dreams. They’re real. The only thing I remember about week two of my last Whole30 is the food dreams. I’d dream about everything from accidentally buying salsa with added sugar, to shoving 12 Cinnabons into my face. The full-size Cinnabons, not those weak mini ones. I haven’t had a Cinnabon in years but I seriously used to GET DOWN on that gooeyness way too often. Now, I don’t even need to eat them. I can just go to any mall and smell the Cinnabons. Same effect. Good idea in theory, but immediate regret followed by a desperate need for a nap.

Anyways, Sunday is usually my big grocery shopping day and boy did I get some good stuff today. The farmer’s market was nearly a bust until I found a cauliflower the size of a basketball for $6. Lots of cauliflower dishes coming up this week. After the market, I went to Sprouts. Though no store can ever top my love for Whole Foods in MB (kombucha on tap, I mean, come on), Sprouts is a pretty close second. They carry a lot of the same items as Whole Foods and their produce section is way cheaper. I often spend hours at Sprouts just looking at everything they carry and reading all the labels. I know, I need a hobby. But I love learning about food and you can always find some cool new products at Sprouts. Like today, I bought this incredible sauerkraut from Farmhouse Culture. Omg, amazing. Highly recommend. I also came away with 3 more ginger teas, making it now 7 different ginger teas in my cupboard. Someone help me.

Today’s takeaway: when I die, please hold my funeral at the Whole Foods salad bar. If that’s unavailable, the produce section at Sprouts would be a close second.
