January Whole30 – Day Thirteen

January 14, 2017

Ugh. Today was rough and I can’t figure out why. Maybe it’s because I woke up in the middle of another food dream – yogurt pretzels this time. What the actual fuck. I haven’t had those in 15 years and they’d be at the very bottom of my cravings list, right below jello but still above dos leches cake.

Terrible timing too. It’s the first day it hasn’t rained all week and everyone was at the beach. But there I was…in my apartment…catching up on YouTube videos. Even though it was a beautiful day outside, the youtube machine sucked me in. And it all started with rewatching Obama’s farewell speech. Then rewatching his shoutout to Michelle 12 times and crying my eyes out. Eventually, I pulled myself together. That was until I found Michelle Obama surprising people on the Tonight Show. And I cried again. Then I cried some more when I watched President Obama award Joe Biden the Medal of Freedom.

At this point, I was a complete wreck and thought some comedy might help. So I turned to my good friend Stephen Colbert. Since getting rid of cable, I’ve relied heavily on YouTube to keep up with my favorite late night shows. But soon I was crying again. Not because I was sad, but because WE’RE ALL SCREWED LOL. It’s actually unbelievable what’s happening in the world. I mean, C-Span was interrupted by Russian State TV and our republican leaders are more concerned with taking away health care. I’m not gonna go on a rant here, but to sum up my thoughts: our leaders are heartless drones living in their own reality.

To pull myself out of this funk, I went to the gym, ate some delicious salmon, and went to Barnes & Noble. All of this helped immensely, but I always feel the most reinvigorated after going to book stores. Bought a copy of Practical Paleo and can’t wait to dig into it! But for now, I’m gonna finish that salad and watch a movie. Cheers to our future! May it extend beyond January 20th.
